Spin classes, in the pool.
Low impact, high energy aqua cycling across Devon. Easy on your joints, hard on your legs, and a lot more fun than the gym.
Your first class
What actually happens at a class
Never done anything like this before? Here's exactly how it goes, from the car park to the front door.
-
Book your spot online
Pick a class from the timetable below and pay by card. You'll get an email confirming where and when. That's the only bit you do in advance.
-
Arrive ten minutes early
Park up and come in. Tell whoever's on the poolside it's your first time and they'll take it from there. You won't have to find anything on your own.
-
Get changed
Normal swimwear, same as any pool. Bring a towel and a bottle of water. There are changing rooms and somewhere to leave your things.
-
Meet your bike
Your instructor sets the bike up for your height and shows you how to sit and hold on. The water comes up to about chest height and the bike stays firmly on the floor.
-
The class, 45 minutes
A gentle warm up, then cycling to music with the instructor calling out changes. You choose how hard you push the pedals. Then a proper cool down.
-
Shower, change, home
Out, warm shower, dressed and away. Most people leave a bit pink in the face and in a very good mood. Plenty stay for a chat.

All of the workout. None of the pounding.
Water is about 800 times denser than air. Every pedal stroke works your muscles harder than it would on land, but the water also carries most of your body weight, so your knees, hips and back are protected the whole time.
That's why it suits almost everyone. Complete beginners, seasoned spinners, people managing joint pain, anyone finding their way back to fitness. You set your own resistance, so nobody gets left behind and nobody gets held back.

What our riders say
“Great class. Janine always makes a point of saying 'set your own pace' and includes a warm up and cool down at the end to make sure you don't hurt yourself. I've been going regularly for some time now and have noticed an improvement in my endurance. It has helped me significantly with my sciatica.”

Wondering about something?
Do I need to be able to swim?
No. The bikes stand on the pool floor in chest deep water and your head stays above the surface the whole time. Plenty of our regulars aren't swimmers.
I'm really unfit. Will I keep up?
Yes, because there's nothing to keep up with. You control your own resistance and pace, so you work at your level while the person next to you works at theirs. Nobody can see how fast your legs are going anyway. It's all underwater.
Is it suitable for bad knees, hips or arthritis?
It's one of the best forms of exercise there is for exactly that. The water supports most of your body weight, so your joints are protected while your muscles still work hard. If you're recovering from an injury or an operation, ask us about our Spin Transition & Rehabilitation sessions.
How do I book?
Everything is booked through the timetable on our home page. Tap the class you want, check the details, and pay securely by card. You'll get a confirmation email straight away.
